SUMMER CAMP CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

CLASSICAL BALLET and POINTE TECHNIQUE

The correct study of classical ballet leads to poise, proper carriage and confident personal expression.  As with any craft, learning the proper execution of fundamental processes leads to a deeper appreciation, love and passion for the art form with the student increasing his/her understanding of self and a discipline that has the potential to transform other aspects of their lives. Many female students who study ballet long enough often engage in the study of pointe.

DANCE HISTORY

Knowledge of historical landmarks in dance connects contemporary dancers to the roots and traditions of their field of study. People are the catalyst for change from new designs in pointe shoes, to better dance floor surfaces to even higher forms of technical versatility. Dance history develops an appreciation of the art form.

INTEGRATIVE MOVEMENT MUSCLE BALANCING

Muscle Balancing is a series of simple movements to increase body awareness and develop safe practices while engaging in the study of dance. Understanding important muscle groups and their function in relationship to movement, specifically dance, is the best way to prevent injuries. These movements become part of a dancer’s self-car regime and inform students to be more responsible for their personal well-being.

VARIATIONS

A variation is a demonstration of the various technical aspects of the classical ballet technique on pointe. Memorizing the steps and acquiring the skill to perform a classical variation with precision and confidence is part of the tradition of the art form. Variations were often passed down from teacher-to-student before the video and technological age.
