A note from Carolina Performing Arts Center Directors..
CPAC is delighted to have Sue Hewgill Peterson, a graduate of The Royal Ballet School in London, as Executive Director of our world-class dance facility. Mrs. Peterson holds teaching credentials from The Royal Academy of Dance as well as the Imperial Society of Dance. She teaches classes for students from age of three through adult. The step-by-step graded syllabus delivered by the study of The Royal Academy of Dance Examinations, is one aspect that Mrs. Peterson is implementing at CPAC. It enables the children and parents to have an ongoing awareness of progress. This will complement the Vaganova training method. The first Royal academy Examination was held in March, 2007 with 100% pass rate and all gaining Merit or Distinction.
The Royal Academy of Dance is an international examining body with their headquarters in London, England. Examinations are held in 70 countries throughout the world. The Royal Academy of Dance location in America is in California.
In addition to implementing The Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) graded syllabus, Mrs. Peterson is also initiating the 'Dance to your own tune' curriculum. Designed to introduce children from ages 3 thru 5 to Classical Ballet, this vital component has been designed with young children's intellectual, emotional, and motor development in mind. 'Dance to your own tune' will be instrumental in allowing children an opportunity to dance and participate in movement play, which will, in turn develop the children into confident, coordinated, and well socialized individuals.
